Like most powerful luxury sedans, fuel efficiency is a concern. The Environmental Protection Agency estimates that the M35 gets 17 miles per gallon in the city and 25 miles per gallon on the highway. The more powerful M45 get an estimated 16 miles per gallon in the city and 21 miles per gallon on the highway.

The 2011 Infiniti M45 and M35 have similar engine options that the Infiniti M had in previous years. The 2010 model is the last model of the current Infiniti M generation. Starting with the 2011 Infiniti M, the third generation will be unveiled. The third generation Infiniti M is expected to have a more powerful engine which will get even more horsepower. Current plans include introducing a hybrid engine which will drastically improve the car's fuel efficiency.
